Borno State's All Progressives Congress, APC, governor Babagana Umara Zulum has confirmed that the choice of a deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 election remains in the hands of the party's governorship candidate, Mustapha Gubio. Speaking during his visit to the palace of the Emir of Biu, Governor Zulum revealed that while he and other stakeholders would offer advice, the final decision would be made by Mr. Gubio himself.
According to reporting by Daily Post Nigeria, Zulum stated, 'The selection should be guided by competence, fairness, and the overall interest of Borno State rather than sectional considerations.' He also urged residents to pray for a peaceful process that would produce a suitable running mate. Recalling his own experience in 2023, Governor Zulum highlighted that no candidate was imposed on him despite advice from then-Governor Kashim Shettima.
