Kebbi ADC claims federal government is intimidating opposition through judicial measures as election looms in 2027.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State has accused the Federal Government, led by President Bola Tinubu, of targeting former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami. The ADC contends that legal measures are being used to deter potential political opponents ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement co-signed by Sufiyanu Bala and Alhaji Shehu Aliyu Sambawa, Kebbi State Chairmen of ADC, the party alleged that judicial actions are employed to dissuade opposition figures from contesting for office. “By 12 noon in 2027, their party is gone. That is why they are intimidating strong opposition figures who appear poised to replace them, particularly Malami,” reads the statement.
Alleged Persecution of Malami
The ADC further claimed that the Kebbi State Government and federal authorities have coordinated efforts to undermine Malami’s gubernatorial bid. These tactics reportedly include judicial actions such as asset confiscation, all part of a strategy designed to deter opposition politicians from pursuing political ambitions.
Resilience amid Persecution
In spite of the alleged judicial and political persecution by both Kebbi State and federal governments, ADC expressed its determination. They believe that the judiciary will eventually reverse the recent ruling against Malami, with Bala stating,
