Air transport unions urge urgent payment of TSA levies
Aviation workers have issued a seven-day ultimatum to airline operators and related organizations, demanding the immediate remittance of Ticket Sales Charges (TSC). The Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) and National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) are behind this urgent call, following earlier unsuccessful negotiations. According to sources, the statutory 5% levy collected on each airline ticket sold is intended for the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority. This fund is crucial for sustaining safe air operations across the country.
The unions explained that despite a previous 14-day notice issued in July, no compliance was seen from the affected operators. The most recent statement, authored by ATSSSAN General Secretary Frances Akinjole and NUATE Deputy General Secretary Odinaka Igbokwe, highlights the dangerous implications of non-payment.
