Former England Defender Warns Footballers Are Vulnerable Too
Clarke Carlisle, the former QPR and Leeds United defender with over 400 professional appearances, is now advocating for mental health awareness after previously attempting to take his own life in December 2014. Despite earning three caps for the England under-21 team, Carlisle has been a vocal campaigner for Mind, the UK’s leading charity for mental health, focusing on reducing stigma and providing support.
The 46-year-old chaired a charity tournament last weekend, 'The Better Together Cup', in Northumberland. The event, organized by QTS Data Centers and Blyth Spartans with Mind's involvement, brought together five non-league clubs to celebrate grassroots football while promoting mental health discussions among fans.
