Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell Reduces Caffeine Intake

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell, known for his high coffee intake that reportedly reached over 1,000 mg a day, has cut back on caffeine after guidance from the team’s director of player health and performance, Brett Fischer. Campbell shared in an interview with Brad Galli: “Fish told me to take this blood test; a couple things came out, I changed a few, and yes, I did back down on caffeine.”

The legendary coach, while still partaking in more coffee than most people, has decreased his daily consumption significantly. “Most of the time it goes well into the evening, and I'm one of those weird people who can chug a cup right before bed,” he noted.

Why the Change?

Campbell’s decision to lower caffeine comes after an encouraging medical test conducted at Fisher's urging. He explained that certain levels were altered by cutting back, reflecting a balance between energy and health.

How Will This Affect His Coaching?

Despite reducing his intake, Campbell intends to maintain his energetic coaching style. “High caffeine levels won’t be completely out of the equation,” he said, hinting that his fourth down calls might remain unchanged due to other factors at play.
