Newcastle United great Kevin Keegan honored by Declan Donnelly
Fans of Newcastle United will grieve the loss of former manager and legend, Kevin Keegan. TV presenter Declan Donnelly paid an emotional tribute to his childhood hero after celebrating in memory last week on his podcast, Hanging Out With Ant And Dec.
Keegan died at 75 from cancer on July 20th. He was revered not just as a player and manager but for the hope he instilled in Newcastle supporters during their tough times. Donnelly explained his profound impact: “Kevin Keegan… signed for Newcastle United in 1982, which is when my eldest brother had started taking me to football. It meant so much more than just football.
“He gave us hope and energy for our team,” Donnelly lamented.In his own words, Donnelly reflected on Keegan’s significance: “Kevin was the reason I got into football, he was the David Beckham of his day. He was my childhood hero.” As a Newcastle native, Donnelly shared that meeting Kevin for the first time, even as a young boy, after winning a competition, was the highlight of his life.
