Patriots’ QB Drake Maye Praises teammate Christian Gonzalez for Sticking to the Game
Patriots quarterback and team captain, Drake Maye, recognizes his fellow cornerback’s dedication during training camp. Speaking directly to his admiration for Gonzalez's businesslike approach, Maye explains why his teammate is someone he looks up to.
“I think that shows his main focus, and that’s football,” Maye said in an interview. “He’s the best corner in the league, in my opinion. He’s not a big rah-rah guy, he does it his own way, but he does it at the highest level, so I’m glad to be his teammate.”
Training Camp Dynamics and Success
The Patriot's success is partly attributed to players like Gonzalez. On the first day of training camp, Maye mentioned that Gonzalez was quick to step in on defensive duties while covering A.J. Brown during drills with a focus on man coverage.
Maye stated, “I think it’s great to see him out here playing around. You saw it in the locker room before, everybody was wondering what’s Gonzo gonna do? First play he’s guarding A.J., that’s the Patriots.”
Social and Team Unity
Despite being of the same age at 24, Maye believes Gonzalez's professionalism is something to emulate. Speaking on how their similar seniority within the team has fostered respect for one another, maye noted, “Gonzo is someone I look up to, even as the same age. I look up to how he does things. How he handles himself.”
