Drug abuse linked to most major crimes in Kano: Task force chief

Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, chairman of the Kano State Joint Task Force on Drug Abuse and Gang-Related Violence, reveals that drug-related crimes make up more than 70% of major arrests. According to his statement, nearly 3,100 people were arrested for offenses last year, with substance abuse being a primary factor in over 70% of cases.

Commenting on the state's efforts to tackle this issue, Rimin Gado highlighted statistics from the Kano State Government that declare a public health emergency due to drug abuse. The multi-agency task force, established under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s leadership, aims to target drug trafficking and gang violence by intensifying community involvement.
