Nigeria's Glasgow Performance Marks New Era in Athletics
Team Nigeria has left its mark at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, bagging a commendable 10 gold, 7 silver and 7 bronze medals. The seventh overall finish, first for Africa, marked a defining moment for Nigerian sports under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership.
As Presidential Aide Hon. Adeyinka Anthony Adeboye celebrated this achievement, he underscored the importance of taking success back to the grassroots. 'Glasgow has shown what Nigeria can achieve when we invest in our athletes,' said Hon. Adeboye, attributing the success to strategic leadership and athlete welfare.
According to Hon. Adeboye, Team Nigeria’s success spans various disciplines and breaking world records. Athletes like Samuel Ogazi, Ezekiel Nathaniel, Goodness Nwachukwu, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, and others have demonstrated the immense talent within Nigeria.
The next phase is firmly set on grassroots sports with plans to expand infrastructure and strengthen talent identification programs.
