Twitch streamer NateDeBaiits recounts friend’s death and six others injured during chaotic birthday celebration in California; GoFundMe raises over $20,000 for funeral expenses.
More than 300 people gathered at an open field near Morgan Hill, California, on July 25 for a birthday party thrown by San Jose Twitch streamer NateDeBaiits. The event was initially promoted on social media and partially streamed live. However, just before midnight, gunshots rang out in the night sky, causing chaos and fear among attendees.
According to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a call at around 10:16 PM after reports of intoxicated people in the street and people throwing bottles. Upon arrival, deputies found hundreds of partygoers running for cover. Seven adults were shot, with one pronounced dead on the scene and six others transported to local hospitals.
NateDeBaiits, whose account was briefly suspended following his live stream during the shooting, later revealed that Desiderio Romero V, an old classmate, had been killed.
