Liverpool Set to Sign Barcelona Captain Ronald Araujo on Loan
Barcelona's Hansi Flick confirmed that center-back Ronald Araujo will join Liverpool on a season-long loan deal. The move comes after Joe Gomez suffered an injury during the pre-season, leaving fewer options in defense for Reds fans.
Araujo’s 8-year stint at the Catalan giants saw 213 appearances and 14 goals. He was named club captain last January, but missed 16 starts and took a mental health break after facing intense criticism following a red card in November's Champions League defeat to Chelsea.
Flick acknowledged Araujo’s importance while expressing reasons for his departure: “We couldn't include him like I wanted and also I think he wants to make something new. He deserves this move.”
Araujo will arrive at Anfield on Sunday to undergo medical examinations, followed by taking part in pre-season training with Steven Gerrard’s team.
