LG Agrees to Remove Intrusive Pop-Ups After User Complaints
Microsoft has stepped in to address user complaints about the automatic installation of antivirus pop-ups on LG monitors. According to Microsoft's Executive Vice President Pavan Davuluri, the company contacted LG and instructed them to disable these pop-ups immediately.
The issue first gained attention after Gamers Nexus published a report investigating claims that *LG* monitor users had been unknowingly subjected to recurring ads from the McAfee antivirus software. Upon connection to compatible Windows systems, the app installed without user consent and displayed frequent promotions for the free trial and other LG software.
Reports indicate that the LG Monitor App Installer was distributed through *Microsoft’s* Hardware Support App framework alongside driver updates via Windows Update. This automatic installation was reported on multiple *Windows 11* systems using different *LG* UltraGear monitors, with the ads appearing almost every time the app was launched.LG's Response and Future Improvements
During an interview, LG stated that while they did not automatically install antivirus programs, their software installer prompted users to explicitly consent before any security-related tools were installed. They have also agreed to remove these promotional pop-ups as a result of Microsoft’s intervention.
