Three Mexicans and Seven Nigerians Face Charges in Massive Drug Operation
The Federal High Court in Lagos is set to rule on Friday, July 24, whether the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) can destroy a clandestine meth lab in Mowe village, Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State. In July 10, the NDLEA had arrested the suspects and arraigned them on charges including manufacturing and possessing large quantities of methamphetamine.
According to the agency, its operatives discovered a major clandestine laboratory, with equipment and chemicals used to produce 2,419.48 kilograms of methamphetamine worth more than ₦480 billion. The defendants also allegedly managed and financed a drug trafficking network that transported precursor chemicals from Lagos to this remote facility.
Experts Analyze Meth Production Process
The court called expert witness Ajilema Anebi, who explained the role of alcohol and hydrochloric acid in methamphetamine production. The substance recovered was identified through scientific analysis conducted by his team, affirming that the defendants were involved in a major drug operation.
