Nigeria Police Arrest Vandalism Suspects in Cable Theft Crackdown

In a renewed effort to combat the destruction of public infrastructure, Yobe State police have apprehended three individuals involved in a widespread cable theft operation.

On July 23, 2026, Abubakar Idris, an aluminum pot maker from Sabon Gari area of Gashua Local Government Area, was caught with two large bundles of suspected stolen power cables. Further investigation led to the capture of Sumaila Suleiman and Ibrahim Ado.

The police also recovered a tricycle (Keke NAPEP) with registration number 497 DPH, allegedly used in transporting the stolen items, and an unregistered motorcycle believed to have been involved in the incident. The statement from Police Public Relations Officer SP Dungus Abdulkarim notes that further investigations are ongoing.
