Nigeria's five-time African badminton champion, Anuoluwapo Juwon Opeyori, has shared a heartfelt message about the realities of pursuing excellence in elite sports. Speaking through his social media channels, Opeyori emphasizes that athletes are often celebrated only for their achievements but not for the countless sacrifices they make.
Opeyori, who began playing badminton with his brother in 2005 and joined Nigeria’s senior national team in 2017, has achieved significant milestones. He won five African Championship men's singles titles, secured two African Games gold medals, and competed at both the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
