26-year-old Prestina Ochonogor will not compete in the women’s long jump at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after Nigeria's organizers rejected her inclusion. Following the withdrawal of experienced jumper Ese Brume, Nigeria had planned to enter both Ochonogor and Ruth Usoro into the event. However, according to a letter signed by Chris Cohen, the technical delegate for the Games, regulations prohibit adding athletes once the initial submission is complete.
The decision was based on check of final confirmation forms that showed Ochonogor had been added after the initial submission, disqualifying her from competing despite winning the national selection trials. In June at Yabatech Sports Complex in Lagos, she cleared 6.57m, enough to top a competitive field and earn her qualification.
