Traditional Ceremony Marks Birth of New Princess Adelewa

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, named his newborn daughter on Sunday evening during a grand ceremony at the Emese Court within the Palace in Ile-Ife. The baby’s arrival was celebrated with traditional customs and prayers for her future.

Oba Ademola Adeyeye unveiled the names: Adelewa, Adeyele, Adeshikemi, and Ayoade Omo Ooni. Each name carries significant meaning, reflecting Yoruba cultural values like wisdom and strength.

Rituals and Symbolism

The ceremony featured symbolic items such as sugarcane, honey, fish, kola nuts, and doves to represent blessings of longevity, prosperity, and peace. Priests prayed for the princess’s future, asking Olodumare to grant her wisdom and strength.
