Lucas Glover Explains Strange Shoe Removal During 3M Open
Golfer Lucas Glover took his shoes off during the final round of the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities after a rules official complained about spike marks on the greens. Glover, who won the US Open in 2009, says it was the first time he faced such an issue since 2019 when tapping down spike marks was allowed.
‘I know there have been some pretty heated discussions and arguments between other players in years past about spike marks and knowing how to walk,’ Glover stated on Instagram. ‘The greens at 3M are bent grass, were soft, and appeared to have been watered a fair amount.’
Glover on TAPING DOWN SPORK MARKS
With the USGA allowing players to tap down spike marks since 2019, Glover insists he’ll keep wearing metal spikes. ‘I'll be wearing metal spikes, and the people playing behind me are still allowed to tap down the marks,’ he said.
Glover explained further: 'First of all, it's not the officials’ place. I wasn't breaking any rules. Secondly, there were people in the groups in front of me and behind me wearing metal spikes as well.’
