Shaik Rasheed and Sarfariz Khan Frontrunners for Test Squad
The Indian cricket team faces a crisis with Sai Sudharsan ruled out of the upcoming two-match series against Sri Lanka, starting August 15 in Galle. As TimesofIndia.com reports, Shaik Rasheed or Sarfaraz Khan could be drafted as substitutes.
Rasheed was part of India A’s squad touring Sri Lanka last month, scoring valuable runs against spin bowlers. He has been at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) for over a week and is scheduled to report back soon. The selectors are considering his progress with feedback from coaches at CoE very positive.
Why Rasheed or Sarfaraz?
Ruturaj Gaikwad may also be considered, but no wildcard selection has been confirmed yet. It's unclear if the youngsters will see immediate action in Test cricket.
A key concern for India is their batting depth. With Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel busy with other commitments, Rasheed or Sarfaraz could offer a solution to the domestic circuit and international stage.
Who is the frontrunner?
Sarfaraz Khan has already been at CoE for his fitness assessment for over a week. While Rasheed’s recent performances suggest he could be drafted, it ultimately comes down to which player can best fill the void left by Sai Sudharsan.
