Fighting Game Community Begins to See Simpler Games Can Still Offer Excitement

The fighting game community (FGC) has historically celebrated difficulty, but now some are recognizing that games don't have to be hard to be good. This shift is evident in how they react to easier games like those seen on mainstream platforms.

When Esports Insider reported that Evo tried inviting streamers for showmatches and faced backlash from the FGC, it highlighted an ongoing issue: the community wants authenticity and passion over skill level. However, this attitude often dismisses newer, simpler games, causing frustration among developers like Fatal Fury's Shinya Tamaki.

Tamaki stated that while the FGC respects complexity, making a game overly difficult could scare away casual players who might otherwise be drawn in. He emphasized that the true fun of fighting games lies not in complicated inputs but in reading opponents and strategic gameplay.
