Aziz Abdul faces disqualification after controversial headbutt in Commonwealth quarter-final
Uganda’s Aziz Abdul, grandson of former Ugandan president Idi Amin, was disqualified from the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games boxing tournament on Wednesday. The disqualification came after he landed a headbutt in his third-round bout against England's Damar Thomas during their super-heavyweight match.
Abdul had started strong, landing three sweeping left hooks in the opening round. However, persistent fouls and a foul in the third round led to his disqualification. Despite maintaining that the referee’s decision was unfair, Abdul received his third warning midway through the final round when he struck Thomas with a headbutt.
A final standing count resulted in Abdul's disqualification. Abdul fumed upon exiting the ring and told reporters:
